Purpose of the Code

The Code has been developed to:

• Keep people safe by making sure care and behaviour meet clear standards.
• Help staff understand what is expected in their role.
• Support managers to create positive workplaces where staff can meet these standards.
• Encourage ongoing improvement in how care and services are delivered.

The Code reflects the same high standards expected of statutorily regulated professionals. It makes sure everyone working in health care services, whether registered or not, follows the same level of quality and professionalism.
