Employing organisations are responsible for ensuring Support Workers are recruited, supported, and developed in line with the principles of patient safety, public protection, and staff wellbeing, through existing clinical, staff, and information governance processes.

 

  • Recruitment: Ensure fair, safe, and transparent recruitment, with all checks completed before employment begins.
  • Role clarity: Provide clear job descriptions and communicate role boundaries during induction.
  • Supervision and governance: Maintain systems for structured supervision and respond to concerns about competence or inappropriate duties.
  • Workplace culture: Foster an inclusive, respectful, and psychologically safe environment with clear procedures for reporting and addressing unacceptable behaviour.
  • Learning and development: Support continuous learning through induction, training, and personal development planning, with tools to assess and improve competence.
  • Embedding standards: Promote and integrate the Code of Practice into everyday organisational culture, ensuring staff understand and apply its principles.
