Step 6: Service review
How to use the Job Planning spreadsheet video
Once percentages have been agreed, individuals can start to forward plan their next Job Planning period. The purpose of this Job Plan is to support an individual to identify whether they have the capacity to do the activities identified for their role, both for Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) and Clinical Care (CC) (Activity Guide). Time for activity at each Pillar of Practice should be identified within each category, as indicated by the individual’s Development Needs Analysis Tool (DNAT; Framework structure | NMAHP Development Framework).
The resources provided support Job Planning over a quarter (3 months/13 weeks) and the guide will reference this. However, a service or individual could choose to Job Plan a longer or shorter period of time if required. This can be done using the Job Plan spreadsheet.
To support individuals to calculate how much time will be spent in the coming Job Plan period, they can use the Monthly Planner, their paper diary, or electronic diary – whichever format best suits them. This can be a broad estimation and will become easier and more predictable over Job Plan cycles.
An individual could revisit their Job Plan throughout the Job Plan period to review any significant changes to their activity, but caution is advised about making changes on a daily or weekly basis. The time requirement for this is likely to outweigh any benefits.
