Step 9: Service Capacity Planning

10

This step can help you identify the capacity available in your service for the two Job Planning categories of Clinical Care (CC) and Supporting Professional Activity (SPA). This information can help you when planning service activity and considering demand.

It can be used alongside other workforce tools such as:

To review the capacity available to you as a service, you can complete the Service Capacity Calculator (Step 5) which allows you to enter the details of each member of the team using their:

  • Weekly working hours
  • Annual leave entitlement
  • Role specific Job Plan percentages.

Collectively this information will aggregate and show you the:

  • Number of SPA sessions allocated for your service for the year
  • Number of CC sessions available to your service for the year
  • The collective whole time equivalent (WTE) for each of the two categories.

As a service, you can use this information to plan clinical activity as identified by your service specification, drivers and priorities.

As a next step, and to inform future service planning, you may wish to collect more detailed data on specific activities for your service as discussed in Step 6: Service Review.
